Refer to market investigations, cast iron machining is seen estimated 15% all of metal machining in the world. For this reason, new cast iron grades are needed by the market and making new studies on this grade by the producers.

Cast iron materials vary greatly in the composition of the alloy, they vary in their cool-down times, have different fluctuating physical properties and are produced by various casting methods. Specific properties and character-istics of cast materials and based on its know-how developed the correct hard metal cutting material for turning. Producers are working for the high wear resistance ,cutting speed and using interrupted cut with different layer structures.

The new LC620H turning grade is developed for grey cast iron(GG) and spheroidal cast iron. Though HC-K15 substrate and 16 mm layer thickness is formed with 4 different layers. Special adhesion interlocking to the ceramic coating guarentees high machining security by 400 m/min cutting speed. Also machining security even when machining difficult materials (GGG 50/60) and interrupted cutting.

As it seen on the picture, oxidation durable Al2O3 with thermal insulation effect as cover layer guarentees high cratering durability and ceramic protector layer as heat and diffusion barrier and so long tool life.

Chip braeking as such is not the main problem in cast iron machining, but rather the heat that is generated during machining. Following the coating process the insert seating faces are ground to ensure increased stability. Greater heat transfer through the insert and the tool holder and so long tool life. Therefore, environmentally dry machining is possible also from economic point of view.

The wear-resistance Casttec LC620H turning grade is also the ideal solution for turning of tempered steel with high tensile strength.
